| Bio: | I'm a senior at Cornell University studying Food Science. What is food science you ask? Well, its a catch-all major that encompasses the safety, psychology, physics, packaging, biology, chemistry, and microbiology of large and small scale food processes. My particular niche is in the Psychology. I do research in Stocking B3, the sensory lab on campus, with Dr. Harry Lawless. You might say he wrote the book of sensory evaluation of food, becausehere's the book. I do my best to tailor my research to my background, which is in the culinary arts as well as in computer science. My research projects have included comparison of statistical methods for the creation of 2D perceptual maps, comparison of preference of citrus juices by chefs and consumers, investigation of the intensity vs. time graphs for different capsaicinoids, and statistical simulations to determine the distribution of Rv coefficients based on randomly generated data. Some of this work will be published in FQ&P, the journal for this sort of thing. Before coming to Cornell I obtained an associates degree at the Culinary Institute of America. I have a passion for food and especially Mexican cuisine, which has helped drive my ambition towards the sensory sciences. I did a one year teaching fellowship at the American Bounty Restaurant which was a thrilling fast paced environment. Chef Phillips was my mentor and friend in the Bounty, and I owe a huge chunk of who I am today to his guidance and patience. I still am involved with ongoing projects with the CIA's California Campus involving the Ventura Center for Food and Wine Research, which is very exciting and a little hush hush for the time being. Currently I'm looking for a PhD program to start in Fall '08. My goal in life is to teach, as since 1996 I've held no less than 6 different teaching positions, primarily by accident, and each time I find myself in one I fall in love all over with the process. Besides that stuff, the most important part of my life is Effie, my fiancée as of August 4th, 2007. We met in the sensory lab in January, 06 with her as a masters student and me an undergraduate (aww how cute). The most wonderful thing about Effie is that every day she teaches me something about myself and having her in my life makes me strive to be the most wonderful person I could possibly be now and become in the future.
